Hoplite
Hoplites are foot soldiers of the Akkadian army. For defense, the hoplite wears a pearlstone helmet and carries a large, round pearlstone shield. The hoplite also wears a tough leather breastplate and greaves. Hoplites who often fight on the front line sometimes line their breastplate and greaves with a thin layer of pearlstone. For a weapon, the hoplite wields a wooden spear, as long as a man is tall, with a spearpoint made out of blackstone. Some hoplites also carry short clubs. Commanding hoplites often are equipped with bolt wands.
Hoplites train for years to fight together in a phalanx formation, and the experience of training and battle is said to foster extremely close bonds between the soldiers. Hoplites often attach tassles to the tips of their helmets, the number of ribbons in the tassle signifying the number of times the soldier served in the front line of a phalanx. In lieu of a designated commander, the number of tassle ribbons also establishes rank.
In recent years, the use of hoplites in foreign wars has markedly decreased, with the army relying more heavily on sorcerers.
