Lamashu
The lamashu is a great flying beast of the Eastern Continent. Its body and tail resemble that of a lion, and its head that of an oryx. The lamashu has two great feathered wings that extend from its shoulderblades. Its front and back paws are padded and armed with sharp claws. The black and white patterns on the lamashu’s face are said to suggest humanlike features.
It is believed that the lamashu’s large stomach produces gases that are lighter than air, allowing the beast to maintain flight. Despite its lionlike features, the lamashu primarily eats grasses and other plants.
Few people have seen lamashu in the wild. They live only in the Vinyak Mountains. Attempts at breeding lamashu in captivity have been unsuccessful.
