Pearlstone is a strong, lightweight grayish stone made from magical processes. It is so named for its rainbowlike sheen. Pearlstone is used extensively by the Akkadian army and government. In recent years, the Star Council has allowed private merchants to purchase and distribute pearlstone.

To make pearlstone, a craftsman first carves the desired object out of wood, usually red cedar. The wood is placed in a special canal with water full of dissolved minerals. Through alchemical processes, the water gradually dissolves the wood, while the minerals in the water simultaneously solidify. The process is similar to naturally petrified wood, but it creates far stronger materials significantly shorter time.
